Idaho’s Mobility and Access Pathway “IMAP”
Inventory of Existing Services Project
The Idaho Transportation Department's Division of Public Transportation has contracted with LAN Resources, LLC of St. Joseph, Missouri to survey and report on the current status of public transportation and mobility services throughout the State of Idaho. Idaho's Transportation Vision 2004-2034 states that "Transportation of the future must be planned, preserved, developed, operated and maintained in a fully integrated manner." In 2007 and 2008, the Division of Public Transportation of the Idaho Transportation Department embraced this challenge and initiated an extensive outreach process. More than 600 individuals statewide participated. The results of this outreach process generated "Idaho's Mobility and Access Pathway" or IMAP. The IMAP vision reflects the emergence of a new paradigm, Mobility Management, an idea or state of mind which emphasizes moving people instead of focusing on the mode of transportation.
The foundation for Idaho's mobility management system will be the development of Local Mobility Management Networks (LMMN) throughout the state. Individual citizens, advocacy groups, transportation providers, human services agencies, and local leaders-all interested stakeholders-will cooperatively work together to coordinate and plan public transportation and mobility services for their own local area. In Idaho, 17 Local Mobility Management Networks are being formed.
One of the first key steps in developing a meaningful mobility plan for each LMMN is to generate an inventory of current services, i.e. a measurement of the current status of mobility within the geographic area covered by each LMMN. The assumption is the current status of mobility in each local area can best be described by those local transportation users, local transportation providers and local agencies that have a stake in the area.
For this initial phase of the project, we are gathering information from Providers of public transportation and mobility services, from Human Service Agencies, and from current and potential Users of any form of transportation other than a single-occupant automobile or pick-up truck. Users include virtually every citizen of the State of Idaho. Based on who you are and what organization you may represent, you may qualify to answer more than one of three different surveys.
